On The Bookshelf: Maine

We recently received two absolutely beautiful books to review by Michael S. Sanders and Russell French focusing on food and drink from Maine.  As you may know, Wells, Maine, is our TBF north location and we enjoy spending long weekends and summers along the southern Maine coast.

We were thrilled to see Chef Josh Mather featured prominently in the book: FRESH FROM MAINEJoshua's Restaurant is practically right in our backyard and showcases the very best of local, organic produce.  Of course it helps when the family farm is only 6 miles away from the restaurant's door.  As you can imagine, he only gets the very choice of everything.  Recipes for Roasted Pepper Shrimp Sauté, Caramelized Onion Crusted Spice-Rubbed Rack of Lamb and (the famous) Barbara Mather's Sinfully Good Fudge Pie are now all on our list of things to cook!

The smaller paperback DRINKING IN MAINE features 50 cocktails, concoctions and drinks from the very best artisinal producers and restaurants.  I can't wait to make a visit to Maine Mead Works in Portland.  It was also cool to learn more about Wyman's Of Maine.  We always have a stock of their canned blueberries in our pantry.

Beautifully photographed with lots of new recipe and cocktail ideas, we will definitely be spending time this summer and fall trying out the recipes and drinks.
