Hidden Treasure in Ogunquit

It's a bit off the beaten path (which is difficult to be in this small coastal Maine village) yet it boasts one of the most spectacular settings in the Village of Ogunquit. I LOVE discovering things.

Stately, friendly to everyone, family-owned and operated since inception, comfy and romantic: The Beachmere Inn. As long as I have been spending my Summers in Ogunquit I never really visited the place so I was quite surprised at how large and spacious it is and right on the Marginal Way.

Oceanview lunch dining at Beachmere Inn.
What was even more interesting is that their dining room is open for lunch to the public! So in these heat-crazed days if you want to dine in air conditioned comfort and enjoy an ocean view this is the spot.

Beachmere Inn also packs great picnic lunches if you want to stop in before hitting the sand. You can even stretch out a blanket on their front lawn and enjoy the picnic right there. Why fight the crowds and parking?

The lobster salad wraps were chock full of lobster meat and delicious. The chicken salad with cranberry and walnut was also a popular choice in the picnic hamper.

If you only do vegetarian the veggie wrap with hummus is available.

The picnic hamper, packed.
Those oreo toffee brownies rivaled the best you'd get at any bakery in Boston.

American Colonial design with spectacular views, all I could imagine was a team at a conference here with ipads spread before them in this sparse and simple room. Great choice and you could even have a run on the beach after!

Beachmere also hosts corporate events, weddings and, yes, elopements. I even saw the couple who were enjoying their elopement that weekend! They arrange the licenses, Justice of The Peace and Couples Massage at their onsite Spa. All you have to do is show up.

  1. Been vacationing in Ogunquit for close to 30 years now, and decided about 3 years ago that we needed a change in accomodations. Tried the Beachmere Inn and we've been coming back every year since. We never leave without booking our room for the following year. What a gem! The owners and staff couldn't be any more gracious and welcoming. Bawdy Sally's Pub is cozy and serves up simple, fresh and delicious food and a really nice cocktail. We park our car and never get back in it unless we want to head into Portland or Portsmouth for the day. It's about as centerally located as it can be, and the walk down to Perkin's Cove via the Marginal Way is lovely and right outside the front gate. I can say with complete certainty that we'll never stay anywhere else!
