Mariposa Agave Nectar Liqueur

We headed on over to Tico last week to meet up with the people of Mariposa, in town to introduce their brand new product, the first ever Agave Nectar Liqueur.

We sipped cocktails and munched on passed appetizers on a warm summer evening where the patio seating was full to capacity.

Mariposa is based in Kentucky and they flew in mixologist Jared Schubert to mix up the drinks and talk about the liqueur, a blend of the finest agave nectar with 100 percent agave tequila and premium vodka.  Essences of rose oil and gardenia were added for a delicate floral bouquet.  We sipped the liqueur straight first.  After simply adding ice the floral aromas were much more pronounced.

Our favorite drink was the Mariposa Mule:  1 1/2 o. Mariposa Agave Nectar Liqueur, 3/4 oz. Lunazul Reposado, 3/4 oz. lime juice, 1/4 oz. Simple Syrup, and 4 o. Ginger Beer.  Really light and refreshing.

The orange-blossom honey taste has just the right amount of sweetness but there is a dry finish.  The agave nectar, naturally sweet, is growing in popularity among top mixologists as a versatile modifier.  I can't wait to try it out in some of my own cocktail creations.
