Getting Artsy At M Bar

This week we went back to the Mandarin Oriental for the public premiere of Brugal Rum Especial Extra Dry, the new Brugal product that we love when we had our own private tasting last week.  This is not your typical rum but a clear, far less sweet version you can really use more like vodka for mixing cocktails.  Above is our own rendition of the Wall Of Brugal currently installed at the M Bar and Lounge.  (photo credit Dean Igoe)

The place was packed so if your are visiting Boston here is a great place to meet fellow travelers from virtually everywhere, as well as locals,  in a stylish, comfortable setting right in the heart of the Back Bay.  We enjoyed the live music and sipped the very same cocktails we sampled last week, snacking on Lobster Beignets.  Our favorite drink continued to be the Dry Hemingway Daiquiri: 2 oz. Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum, 1/2 oz. Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur, 1/2 oz. Fresh Grapefruit Juice and 1/2 oz. Fresh Lime Juice.

We also had a chance to wander around the hotel and take in some of the incredible flower arrangements and artwork.  The Mandarin Oriental boasts more than 35 pieces of museum quality art in the hotel's public spaces including dozens of paintings and over 10 sculptures.

The Crispy Artichokes: fried and served with baby lettuce, garlic confit, coriander and parmigiano reggiano.

A piece by British Pop Art icon David Hockney entitled "The Deaux".  This hand colored lithograph hangs just off the main reception lobby.

So, if you enjoy art with your cocktails, or dinner, stop in at M Bar at the Mandarin Oriental.
