Mac and Cheese at Max and Dylan's

The Baltimore Crab Macaroni and Cheese.

I was lucky enough to be asked to serve, once again, on a judging panel for Max and Dylan's City Square to help pick the winner for their recent Macaroni and Cheese recipe competition. We sampled five dishes and picked up an awesome new tip for those attending T. D. Garden events offered by the restaurant which I will share with readers at the end of the post. I was joined by five other food writers and we were all asked to rate the dishes on the basis of creativity and taste. It was difficult since they were all so good but here's what we came up with.

Chopped asparagus was added to this dish and the delicate flavor of the crab went well. Very nice.

The Porcini Mushroom and Truffle Macaroni and Cheese. Incredible.

The rich flavor of porcini and the delicate aroma of that truffle made this, by far and away, my favorite. Both of these flavors seemed to mix very well with the Mac and Cheese.

The Mac and Cheeseburger, filled with a generous amount of ground beef and topped with lettuce and tomato, just like a burger.

I was in the minority for really liking this one but, then again, I was the only guy taste-testing. I am not sure if there was a correlation. I liked the tomato and lettuce. I also thought that this would be popular with kids as this Max and Dylan's location has a large population of families who dine here regularly.

Chorizo and Jalapeno Macaroni and Cheese. Great combination and surprisingly not overpoweringly hot. This was my second favorite taste of the night and the eventual Chef's choice to be featured on the menu.

Last but not least was a Chipotle Mac and Cheese. It looked harmless but packed a really nice spice heat, not overpowering but very flavorful.

The group chose the Baltimore Crab as the top dish. The winning recipe gets a nice dinner with friends compliments of the restaurant. Now for the tip! Next time you are attending a T. D. Garden event drive over the bridge into Charlestown and park at City Square (away from the crowd) and park for a mere $8.00. Show your event ticket at Max and Dylan's and you receive 25% off your dining bill! Great deal. Plus, the Garden is only a short five minute walk away through the park right across the street. Great discount on dinner, easy parking and a few minutes to the Garden front entrance. Plus, you get that amazing up-close view of the Zakim Bridge. Tell them The Boston Foodie sent you.
