Doughnut Of The Week, Almost

We headed up to the country house for a getaway last weekend and stopped in at my fave bakery: Bread and Roses.

Their stuff is so mouth-watering, especially after an invigorating early morning walk along the beach, that it's quite difficult to decide which treat to try. I always seem to go for the same thing, however. Just can't stay away from the Cinnamon Butter Puffs.

Not only has Mary Breen and her gang at Bread and Roses totally renovated the place for this season, with a brighter, airier, larger space but they have also fully embraced social media. With Twitter, SCVNGR, Foursquare, Facebook and even Youtube there is no reason you can't keep up with everything that's going on there. Of course, our eight month term as Mayor ended abruptly in the digital fray! Don't we get anything for being the first official Mayor, Mary? Not that we're looking for a marble bust (wink) but an Oatmeal Raspberry Bar or a photo shoot would not be refused.

Although these are technically not doughnuts just take a look at how close they really are. A moist, buttery batter baked to a perfect density and rolled in a cinnamon/sugar coating beats the heck out of anything coming out of most doughnut shops. Then, there are the scones, muffins, danish and even filled croissants.

I bought two puffs, one each to share over a hearty country breakfast back at home. I ate both. Without guilt. Some people don't know what they are missing.
